Pirate Parrots

Ahoy and welcome to the second page of this voyage. We'll be concentratin' on things avian here. I share my life, ship, and grub with a bag of feathers by the name of Gris-Gris (pronounced Gree-Gree). Gris is a Congo African Gray Parrot. The African Grey parrot is probably the best known parrot in the world. These parrots have been kept as pets for centuries in the villages of its native range, northern-central Africa. The date of their introduction to Europe is unclear. It is certain that they were known there as long ago as the 1500's, since in England, one was a favored pet of King Henry the VIII (1509-1547). This parrot resided at his palace, Hampton Court, just outside London, and soon learned to call the ferryman across the water! The greys power of mimicry is probably unsurpassed by any other member of the parrot family. They are without doubt the most talented birds when it comes to reproducing the sound of the human voice, and amassing a vocabulary of words and phrases.Grey parrots are instantly recognizable; they have gray body coloration and bright red tail feathers. He was hatched into this world on March 13th 1996. He came to live with us as a 6 week old baby. His current fun thing to do is to call the family dog and whistle for him. "Here Butch...Wanna go out...Wanna go out?" You can learn more about companion birds at BirdTalk.com Later on in this document we'll give you a run down on Gris-Gris's vocabulary. Companion birds are a wonderful pet but do require a patient and loving environment to fully thrive. Any pirate worth his salt can care for one of these fellows.
